LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Peacemakers for their hard work,
determination and dedication to the Juneteenth Festival and to the
people of the City of Buffalo

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Peacemakers for their hard work, determination and dedication to the
Juneteenth Festival and to the people of the City of Buffalo, as well as
for taking the lead and showing not only our community, but the country,
that when we all work together great things can happen; and
WHEREAS, Working together with the members of the Buffalo Police
Department, the Peacemakers have been instrumental in making the annual
Juneteenth Festival an event the City of Buffalo is proud of and one
which draws families from throughout the City and beyond; and
WHEREAS, The Stop the Violence Coalition, Back to Basics Ministry,
FATHERS, and Buffalo United Front are the all-volunteer groups that make
up the Peacemakers, which, for several years, have worked side by side
with law enforcement to make Buffalo and its Juneteenth Festival a safe
event for all to attend and enjoy; and
WHEREAS, The Peacemakers' 50 volunteers talk to the youth coming into
the Martin Luther King Park, and in many cases, head off problems before
they occur; their efforts have resulted in the partnership believed to
be the only such partnership of its kind in the Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Peacemakers for their hard work, determination and dedi-
cation to the Juneteenth Festival and to the people of the City of
Buffalo; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Stop the Violence Coalition, Back to Basics Ministry,
FATHERS, and Buffalo United Front.
