LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dennis Skibitski upon the occasion of
being inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, August 1,
2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary athletes, coaches, and administrators who
have distinguished themselves and their schools through outstanding
commitment, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dennis Skibitski upon the occasion of being inducted into the Rome
Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, August 1, 2010; and
WHEREAS, A Rome Free Academy graduate, Dennis Skibitski has played an
integral role in the success of the Rome Catholic sports program over
the years as a coach and athletic director; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Skibitski was a tight end and linebacker for the
powerful Rome Free Academy football teams that went undefeated for four
straight seasons under the direction of Rome Sports Hall of Famer Don
Bruce; Dennis also earned varsity letters in basketball and baseball;
and
WHEREAS, Dennis Skibitski was an assistant football coach for seven
years before becoming the head coach in 1983; the winningest football
coach in school history, he has also led Redwings teams in a variety of
other sports during a career that has spanned more than three decades,
including softball and track and field; he has also coached baseball on
the modified and junior varsity levels; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dennis Skibitski upon the occasion of being inducted into the Rome
Sports Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dennis Skibitski.
