LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Orange County Trust Company upon the
occasion of receiving the Business of the Year Award by the Town of
Montgomery Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, Businesses which provide outstanding services to residents of
the communities of the State of New York are deserving of public recog-
nition and applause for their efforts; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Orange County Trust Company upon the occasion of receiving the Business
of the Year Award by the Town of Montgomery Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Orange County Trust Company was honored on April 21, 2010, at
the Colden Manor at Spruce Lodge in Montgomery, New York; and
WHEREAS, This bank opened its doors for business in Middletown, New
York on May 2, 1892, under the name of the Orange County Trust and Safe
Deposit Company; its founders were 14 public spirited citizens who
recognized a need in the prospering industrial town for a banking insti-
tution which would specialize in estate planning and trust adminis-
tration, as well as offer traditional banking services; and
WHEREAS, The original bank building was built on North Street in
Middletown during the year 1891; the original name is still on the
building above the top windows, and on the right side of the main
entrance is a bronze plate with the current name, Orange County Trust
Company, which was changed in 1905; and
WHEREAS, As the community continued to grow, it became apparent that
the bank would need additional space from which to expand and improve
the services needed and demanded by its customers; in 1955, a branch was
constructed in the Silver Lake area on Route 211 and was opened for
business in August of 1955; then in 1969, the Wilson Field Office, on
the site of the current Dolson Avenue office, was opened; and
WHEREAS, In August of 1995, Orange County Trust Company opened its
first branch outside of the Middletown area; this branch was opened in
the Town of Montgomery on Route 208; construction began in the Spring of
1995 and on August 28th the doors opened for business; the continuous
growth of the Bank and the desire to better serve the people of the area
led to the expansion beyond Middletown, and Montgomery was a natural
location for the Trust Company, as it is a growing area in close proxim-
ity to the business crossroad of Orange County; and
WHEREAS, In April of 1997, the Trust Way branch in Middletown, at the
corner of Dunning Road, opened; this branch replaced the Route 211
branch, and with such a high volume of business at the Silver Lake
branch and limited opportunity for expansion, a new facility was created
to accommodate the needs of the rapidly growing customer base; and
WHEREAS, The Executive Offices and Loan Department of Orange County
Trust Company were moved from the original main office on North Street
to the 212 Dolson Avenue Office in June of 1999; the Dolson Avenue
Office is now the headquarters of Orange County Trust Company; and
WHEREAS, Over the last decade, the Trust Company has continued to
enjoy great success and has opened several additional branches through-
out Orange County; and
WHEREAS, The Morrison family, perennial benefactors of the city of
Middletown since the turn of the century, has been affiliated with
Orange County Trust Company for all but the first 17 years of the Bank's
existence; John Morrison III currently serves as Chairman of the Board
as did his uncle, Eugene Morrison, and his father, John Morrison Jr.,
before him; William D. Morrison is presently a Director of the Bank; and
WHEREAS, From an institution that began as a dream of 14 founders,
Orange County Trust Company, through conservative business practice and
commitment to its community for 118 years, has grown to an independent
and very successful community bank; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Orange County Trust Company upon the occasion of receiving the
Business of the Year Award by the Town of Montgomery Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Morrison III, Chairman of the Board, William D. Morri-
son, Director, and Terry R. Saturno, President and CEO.
