LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Nice N Easy
Grocery Shoppes

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 30th Anniversary of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes; and
WHEREAS, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes was the brainchild of three men,
Dick and Don Clark and John MacDougall; the Clark brothers owned Clark's
Petroleum, based in Canastota, and were looking for a better way to
market their product; together with John MacDougall, who had an exten-
sive background in the convenience-store industry, came up with the
concept of a one-stop store that could give customers a wide range of
products at competitive prices in a minimum amount of time; and
WHEREAS, With John MacDougall as president, the partnership opened its
first Nice N Easy store in February of 1980 in Clinton, New York; in May
of that same year, they converted their first gas station to a Nice N
Easy Grocery Shoppe in Whitesboro; and
WHEREAS, After the first few years, Nice N Easy had six stores in
upstate New York, and at that point, the organization began getting
inquiries from other oil distributors who wanted to get into the conve-
nience-store business; the growth of Nice N Easy's own stores, coupled
with the growth of the franchise organization, expedited overall company
growth; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes's contributions to the local and State
economies, and extends its highest commendation to this corporate enter-
prise, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the sparkling
success it has enjoyed thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John MacDougall, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes.
