LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Warren K. Young upon the occasion of
his ordination into the ministry of the Christian faith

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State are nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Warren K.
Young upon the occasion of his ordination into the ministry of the
Christian faith on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at The Church of The Open
Door in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Warren Young, the eldest of eleven children, was born and
raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; he joined a Baptist Church, follow-
ing in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and after completing
high school, he attended Yale University, graduating with a degree in
Mathematics; he then spent two years teaching at Philips Academy, a
college preparatory school in Andover, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, Warren Young left Andover, Massachusetts, to explore the
world of business and landed a job as an actuary at an insurance company
in Philadelphia; it was at this time and in a Baptist Church that he
first became a deacon and served there for four years; later moving to
New Jersey, he began work at another insurance company in the area and
again was brought onto the Deacon Board of a local Baptist Church where
he remained for seven years; and
WHEREAS, After a short time period in a bank lending program, Warren
Young spent the next 16 years in various positions at AT&T; a job move
with AT&T allowed him to join a church in Maryland pastored by an old
friend and there he taught the new members' class and began a program
working with younger boys known as the Buffalo Soldiers; and
WHEREAS, Another relocation with the phone company led to Warren
Young's joining a Bible Church back in New Jersey; when that church
seceded as it moved uneasily toward spirit-led worship, he was among the
five men chosen to lead the church while it sought a new pastor; his
duties also included teaching and preaching as well as handling some
administrative functions; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Warren Young was blessed to marry the lovely Ms.
Jeanette Powell and joined The Church of the Open Door, where his duties
have expanded through the years; he sees a large part of his ministry as
teaching and encouraging others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Warren K. Young upon the occasion of his ordination into the
ministry of the Christian faith; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
