LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Greg Chorvas upon the occasion of being
inducted into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary athletes, coaches and administrators who have
distinguished themselves through their outstanding commitment, and
attained unprecedented success and the highest level of personal
achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Greg
Chorvas upon the occasion of being inducted into the Saugerties Sports
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Greg Chorvas began his involvement in sports playing baseball
in the Saugerties Little League and Babe Ruth League; after that, he
moved to the Saugerties Athletic Association Softball League, where he
played on several league championship teams and twice led his division
in runs batted in; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Greg Chorvas played basketball, starting in the
Saugerties Athletic Association Biddy League and moved on to play in the
Junior and Half Court Leagues; and
WHEREAS, A star player in the Saugerties Dartball League for many
years, Greg Chorvas played on several championship teams and earned a
place on several All Star teams; and
WHEREAS, An avid golfer, Greg Chorvas was a member of the Sawyerkill
and Sawyercrest Golf Clubs and is currently a member of the Rip Van
Winkle Country Club, where he has captured eight Club Championships and
made it to the final round on four other occasions; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Saugerties Athletic Association Board of
Directors for 31 years, Greg Chorvas currently serves on the Executive
Board as Treasurer and is the Chairman of the Golf Tournament and the
Annual Clambake Golf Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Greg Chorvas has served as Co-Commissioner of
the Saugerties Athletic Association Men's and Women's Softball Leagues,
Head of Umpires for the Saugerties Athletic Association and Saugerties
Babe Ruth, Commissioner of the Saugerties Athletic Association Biddy,
Junior and Senior Leagues and President of the Saugerties Dartball Leag-
ue; and
WHEREAS, The Superintendent of the Town of Saugerties Parks and Build-
ing Department, Greg Chorvas has interacted with various people and
organizations to improve the facilities that are used by the residents,
including the soccer fields at the Cantine Complex and the Kiwanis Ice
Arena; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Greg Chorvas upon the occasion of being inducted into the Sauger-
ties Sports Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Greg Chorvas.
