LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dave DeAngelis, Jr. for his heroic
actions at a house fire on March 3, 2009

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body has the deepest pride and admiration for
the firefighters of New York State who take prompt and appropriate
action in emergency situations, nobly risking their lives in an effort
to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor
Dave DeAngelis, Jr. for his heroic actions at a house fire on March 3,
2009; and
WHEREAS, An East Kingston volunteer firefighter, Dave DeAngelis, Jr.
was driving home on U.S. Route 9W when he spotted smoke coming from a
single family home at 13 Arthur Lane and intervened; and
WHEREAS, As he drove past the home, Dave DeAngelis, Jr. saw an orange
glow coming from inside the garage; after turning around and driving
back, he found the flames had already started to consume the outside of
the garage; and
WHEREAS, Acting quickly, Dave DeAngelis, Jr. began banging on the door
to the house, and when he could not immediately wake the residents, he
ran to a neighbor's house and called 911; and
WHEREAS, Dave DeAngelis, Jr. then ran back to the burning home and
managed to wake the family, which included a baby, a woman in her late
teens, and three men in their 20s, all of whom made it to safety and
were uninjured; and
WHEREAS, Through his spontaneous and heroic actions, Dave DeAngelis,
Jr. demonstrated his character and compassion for the welfare of
others, personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern
of ordinary citizens across the community of the State of New York who
respond when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dave DeAngelis, Jr. for his heroic actions at a house fire on
March 3, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dave DeAngelis, Jr.
