LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION urging the New York State Congressional deleg-
ation to request President Obama to expend monies that were appropriated
for certain studies on the health of people who responded to the 9/11
terrorist attacks

WHEREAS, President Obama's budget office has withheld the money required
to finish a pair of 9/11 studies on the health of people who responded
to the terrorist attacks; and
WHEREAS, The money was expected to be part of a funding package
released by the Office of Management and Budget to keep 9/11 treatment
programs going; and
WHEREAS, Such funding did not include the support for a survey of
responders on the September 11 health registry, including thousands of
people from all over the State of New York as well as the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Police officers are especially sensitive to the cancer issue,
with growing numbers of responders dying from the horrific disease; and
WHEREAS, At issue is some $1.3 million for the cancer work, plus a
shortfall of $1.5 million for a third wave of evaluations meant to be
finished around the 10-year mark; federal health officials had agreed to
that funding last year, but the Office of Management and Budget is with-
holding release of the necessary funds; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body, representing the people of the State
of New York, thereby urges our New York State Congressional delegation
to address our concerns with regard to the withholding of funds for
those heroes who helped respond to the events of 9/11; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the NYS Congressional delegation be and hereby is
respectfully memorialized by this Legislative Body to request President
Obama to expend monies that were appropriated for certain studies on the
health of people who responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to each member of the Congressional delegation from the State of
New York.
