WHEREAS, The Utica Memorial Auditorium was built by the City of Utica
in 1959 on the site of the old Erie Canal on land donated by the State

pillars to-see through; and

after the Auditorium; it was operated by the City from 1960-1996; the

Central New York, as did perennial favorites Harlem Globetrotters, Ice
Capades, and professional boxing and wrestling; and
WHEREAS, Scenes from the movie "SlapShot", starring Paul Newman, were
filmed at the Utica Memorial Auditorium; late in 1996, the AUD, as it is
known locally, was sold to the Upper Mohawk Valley Auditorium Authority

WHEREAS, Whether it is national, state, or local programming, the
Utica Memorial Auditorium continues to be a premiere entertainment venue
each year; it is a true asset to society; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Utica Memorial Auditorium; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
