LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating student-athlete Javon McCrea upon
his selection as the All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late student-athlete Javon McCrea upon his selection as the All-Greater
Rochester Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Javon McCrea led the Newark Reds Boys Basketball team to a
23-2 record; his team won 55-48 in the semifinal game over Westbury,
where he scored 25 points, had 19 rebounds along with eight blocked
shots; and
WHEREAS, The Reds reached the Class A Championship game and lost
against Jamesville-DeWitt; in that game, Javon McCrea scored 16 points
and had 17 rebounds; and
WHEREAS, For the season, Javon McCrea averaged 22.4 points, 14
rebounds and eight blocked shots per game; a 6-foot-7 senior who was
named to the Class A all-state first team by the New York State Sport-
swriters Association, he signed on for a full scholarship to play
college basketball at the State University of New York at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Javon McCrea's overall record is outstanding; he was loyally
and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the communi-
ty at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Javon McCrea has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Javon McCrea upon his selection as the
All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Javon McCrea.
