LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Albany Legends Basketball Team
and Coach Derrick Rowland upon the occasion of winning the International
League Championship

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those esteemed individuals within the State of New York who
distinguish themselves through outstanding achievements in athletic
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Albany Legends Basketball Team and Coach Derrick Rowland upon
the occasion of winning the International League Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Legends Basketball Team are the International
League Champions; they won the 2010 IBL Championship by defeating the
Bellingham (Washington State) Slam by a score of 126-111 before a large
hometown Albany crowd at the Washington Avenue Armory on July 16, 2010;
and
WHEREAS, This is the first minor league basketball championship for
Albany since 1988; the Legends' Head Coach Derrick Rowland played on
that team for the Albany Patroons; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Derrick Rowland and Assistant Coach Bob
Catherwood, both skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their
ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Established in October of 2009, the Legends organization has
partnered with over 25 youth groups and not-for-profit organizations
with fundraisers, youth clinics, donations, game tickets, and player
appearances; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Derrick Rowland and these outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Albany Legends Basketball Team; its members: Gordon
Klaiber, Deandre Thomas, Damone Morris, Kenny Satterfield, Lloyd John-
son, Evan Lane, Rashad Woods, Jermain Tate, Chris Grant, Lloyd Clinton,
and Charles Henson; and Coaches Derrick Rowland and Bob Catherwood on
their outstanding season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Albany Legends Basketball Team and to the aforementioned
coaches.
