LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor David A. Paterson to
proclaim March 24, 2009, as Breast Cancer Advocacy Day in the State of
New York

WHEREAS, New York State has and will continue its long-standing commit-
ment to winning the battle against breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body has demonstrated its support for
government and breast cancer survivor support and education programs
that play a vital role in this battle against breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this Legislative Body acknowledges the crit-
ically important role of grassroots organizations that provide support
and advocacy on behalf of those who have or have had this terrible
disease; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Breast Cancer Network, a grassroots coali-
tion united in the fight against breast cancer, has annually organized a
statewide advocacy day in Albany; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Breast Cancer Network is a network of
community-based organizations representing communities stretching from
Buffalo to Long Island that are focused on breast cancer services and
issues; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Breast Cancer Network member organiza-
tions' services and programs reach more than 100,000 residents through-
out the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, March 24, 2009, represents the 11th year that the New York
State Breast Cancer Network has sponsored an Advocacy Day in Albany for
breast cancer survivors, caregivers and advocates; and
WHEREAS, The theme of this year's Network Advocacy Day is "Prevention
is the Cure," focusing on the critical importance of breast cancer risk
reduction from exposures to carcinogenic and other environmental toxins;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor David A. Paterson to proclaim March 24, 2009, as
Breast Cancer Advocacy Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New
York.
