LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Elmont Memorial High School's
2008 Varsity Football Team and Coach Jay Hegi upon the occasion of
capturing the Nassau Conference II Championship on November 22, 2008

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, The Elmont Memorial High School's 2008 Varsity Football Team
are the Nassau Conference II Champions; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Jay Hegi, Assistant Coaches Dave Kingsley, James
Carrette, Matt Reyer, Kru Patel and Kevin Sullivan along with Principal
John Capozzi, Superintendent Warren Meierdiercks have fostered an atmos-
phere where students learn the skills neccessary to be successful in
life both on and off the sports field; and
WHEREAS, The Elmont Spartans have had an outstanding season high-
lighted by exciting games where the contributions of the entire football
squad's collective talents, drive, determination, spirit, sense of team-
work and heart have been the symbol of the majesty of organized sports
in Elmont; and
WHEREAS, Elmont's 28-7 win over the Hewlett Bulldogs in the Nassau
County Championship at Hofstra University on November 22, 2008, is a
tribute to the hard work and dedication of the following young men who
make up the Spartan team and represent their school with dignity and
respect: Captains: Diashawn Miller, Justin Mayers, and Jimmy Brown III;
Seniors: Yves Pierre, Sam Thomas, James Myers, Jason White, Kadeem
Smith, Binah Previl, Sebastian Clerge, Michael Robinson, Trevor Shields,
Anthony Walker, Andry Paulino, Rodney Sabin, Roland Garrett, Brian Cole,
Ahkeel Rodney, Taylor Pierre, Jermaine Gibbs, Shane Chang Fatt, Malcolm
Frazier, Harris Alfredo, Amine Aberkane, Adeeka Gordon, Cebert Ashley,
Doninique Garrett, Ifeanyi Kalu, Jordany Michel, Nikita Josephs, and
Adelbert Clerge; Underclassmen: Isiah Green-Groves, Jason Campbell,
Tyrone St. Louis, D'Andre McLune, Alain Corney, Zachary Germain, Charles
Dimoh, Stanley Achille, Phillip Cuff, Lance Phillip, Bryan Gere, Tyrik
Cayemitte, Clifford Muscadi, Darnell London, Chris Chaderton, Justin
Atherly, Kevin Michel, Christopher Moore, Torey Rowe, Shane Reese, Cesar
Martinez, Wedly Saintil, and Kevin Johnson; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Elmont Memorial High School's 2008
Varsity Football Team, from the opening game of the season to partic-
ipation in the championship, were a brotherhood of athletic ability, of
good sportsmanship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that
these team players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Coach Jay Hegi has done a superb job in guiding, molding and
inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Jay Hegi and his outstanding athletes have

clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Elmont Memorial High School's 2008 Varsity Football
Team and Coach Jay Hegi upon the occasion of capturing the Nassau
Conference II Championship on November 22, 2008; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Elmont Memorial High School's 2008 Varsity Football Team
and Coach Jay Hegi.
