LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. Brian D. Monahan upon the
occasion of his retirement as the Superintendent of the North Rockland
School District

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and charac-
ter whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dr. Brian D. Monahan upon the occasion of his retirement as the
Superintendent of the North Rockland School District; he will be honored
on June 11, 2009, at The Clubhouse at Patriot Hills in Stony Point, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Brian D. Monahan has been in the North Rockland School
District since 1995, serving as technology coordinator, Information
Systems Director, Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and
Superintendent; and
WHEREAS, Prior to this, Dr. Brian D. Monahan was the Associate Vice
President for Academic Affairs/Vice Provost at Iona College, an Adjunct
Professor of Education at Fordham University and a Teacher/Administrator
in the Yonkers Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, The quintessential educator, Dr. Brian D. Monahan has been
the recipient of a multitude of awards, honors and certificates of
recognition, acknowledging his efforts of in-depth magnitude, including
the State University of New York Distinguished Alumni Service Award, the
Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year Award, the Cabrini Nursing Home
Sharing the Mission Award and the Pioneer Award for Technology from the
Lower Hudson Regional Information Center; and
WHEREAS, A true citizen of Rockland County, Dr. Brian D. Monahan
believes in giving back to the region he loves so much; he served as
Mayor of Dobbs Ferry from 1999 to 2005, as well as a member of the Dobbs
Ferry Board of Education and a Dobbs Ferry Village Trustee; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Brian D. Monahan received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and
Teaching with a specialization in Language and Literacy from Fordham
University, a Master's of Science degree in Computer Science from Pace
University, a Master's of Arts degree in Applied Linguistics with a
specialization in language and reading from Teachers College, Columbia
University, a Master's of Science degree in Education from Iona College
and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the State University of
New York at Albany; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success in the North Rockland School District is due in large part to
the efforts of Dr. Brian D. Monahan, who has continually demonstrated
an impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting
enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and opportunities
offered there for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as
for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Dr. Brian D. Monahan provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
young people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in
their future years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Brian D. Monahan has clearly had an enduring impact on
the youth in the North Rockland School District, as well as on the

community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Brian D. Monahan upon the occasion of his retirement as
the Superintendent of the North Rockland School District after 13 years
of distinguished service and to wish him continued success in all of his
future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Brian D. Monahan.
