LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor David A. Paterson to
declare July of 2009, as Wounded Warrior Project Month in the State of
New York

WHEREAS, The Wounded Warrior Project is a nationally recognized organ-
ization aimed at assisting those men and women of our armed forces who
have been severely injured during combat operations in Iraq, Afghanis-
tan, and other overseas contingency operations worldwide; and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warriors Project aims to raise awareness and has
enlisted the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men
and women; in addition, it helps severely injured service members
aid/assist each other, as well as provides unique, direct programs and
services to meet the needs of these service members; and
WHEREAS, Many of the injuries are traumatic amputation, gunshot
wounds, burns and blast injuries that will cause these brave warriors to
be retired from military service, and many will be returned to civilian
life minus one or more limbs, with serious wounds or disfiguring scars,
some visible, others not; and
WHEREAS, The resulting objective of the Wounded Warriors Project has
provided tangible support and results for the severely wounded, and has
helped them on the road to healing, both physically and mentally; what
has been initially viewed as a small contribution, has grown to immense
proportions, but compared to what these warriors have sacrificed while
serving our country, is minimal; and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warriors Projects Odyssey program has provided an
outdoor rehabilitative retreat that combines adventurous challenges with
opportunities for peer support and group processing; this program was
created to support warriors in their recovery from the stress of combat;
and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warrior Projects Warriors to Work program was
established to help individuals recover from severe injuries received in
the line of duty and connect with the support and the resources needed
to build a career in the civilian workforce; it is tough to transition
into civilian life, but it is even tougher to adjust to life after a
serious injury; and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warriors Projects Sacrifice Center was built to
tell the stories of those American services members injured in the line
of duty, starting with the decision to serve and continue on through
injuries to triumphs and successes post-injury; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor David A. Paterson to declare July of 2009, as
Wounded Warrior Project Month in the State of New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New
York, each Department of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
all other nationally recognized Veterans organizations, the President of
the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Represen-
tatives and Minority Leader, the Majority and Minority Leader of the
United States Senate, the United States Department of Defense, and the
United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
