LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor David A. Paterson to
proclaim January 2009 as Learn-A-Snow Sport Month in the State of New
York

WHEREAS, National Learn-A-Snow Sport Month is set for January 2009
according to resorts, retailers, suppliers and education associations
across America involved with the snow sports industry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize Governor
David A. Paterson to proclaim January 2009 as Learn-A-Snow Sport Month
in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Learn-A-Snow Sport Month will focus on New York State's
observance of fitness and sports activities that are designed to improve
the quality of life for our most precious resource, our youth, by
promoting awareness of the value of physical activity in the pursuit of
happier, healthier and more productive lives; and
WHEREAS, During this designated month, resorts, Nordic centers, and
national and state parks participating in the outreach initiative will
offer special free or discounted learning packages for children and
adults who want to learn an outdoor winter activity; and
WHEREAS, New York State is a great ski State with more ski areas than
any other State in our Nation; the Empire State ranks fifth nationally
in total skier visits and contributes $1.1 billion to the economy of
Upstate New York during the winter months; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York has the responsibility to recognize
special months that have our children in its best interest, helping them
to keep fit and active, and at the same time, enjoying the many outdoor
recreational facilities the State of New York has to offer; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor David A. Paterson to proclaim January 2009 as
Learn-A-Snow Sport Month in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New
York.
