LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Nick Koopman in recognition of his
extensive charitable efforts in assisting the American Red Cross Relief
Fund for Japan

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Nick Koopman in recognition of his extensive charitable efforts in
assisting the American Red Cross Relief Fund for Japan; and
WHEREAS, Nick Koopman is a second-grade student at Henry Johnson Char-
ter School in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, After the class watched a video from the aftermath created by
the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Nick Koopman felt compelled to help
those who have been affected by the devastating natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, At the young age of seven, Nick Koopman was inspired to write
a letter asking the staff and students from his school to donate in an
effort to help the people of Japan; and
WHEREAS, The benevolent efforts of Nick Koopman raised the conscious-
ness of the students and staff at Henry Johnson Charter School, who
ultimately pulled together in a fundraising campaign; the campaign led
to a substantial donation which was given to the American Red Cross
Relief Fund for Japan; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nick Koopman in recognition of his extensive charitable efforts
in assisting the American Red Cross Relief Fund for Japan; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nick Koopman.
