LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Mount Vernon High School Boys
Track Team upon the occasion of its outstanding 2010-2011 Indoor and
Outdoor Seasons

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, During its outstanding 2010 Indoor Season, the Mount Vernon
High School Boys Track Team captured the 1600 meter relay championship
at the prestigious Milrose Games; in addition, the team emerged as the
Section 1, Westchester County and League champions in both the 800 meter
relay and 1600 relay events; and
WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon High School Boys 800 meter relay team of
Kadeem Anderson, Rawle Crawford, Michael Blake and Christopher Winslow
were also the 2010 Indoor Season New York State and Federation cham-
pions; its 1600 meter relay team of Michael Blake, Rawle Crawford, Davon
Moore and Kadeem Anderson were named Nike Indoor National All-Americans;
and
WHEREAS, In 2010, the Mount Vernon High School Boys 1600 meter relay
team broke the Indoor Season Section 1 record, the Westchester County
record and the previous Mount Vernon High School record with a time of
3:20.49; in addition, its 800 meter relay team broke Westchester County
and previous Mount Vernon High School records with a time of 1:29.84;
and
WHEREAS, During the Mount Vernon High School Boys Track Team's
outstanding 2010 Outdoor Season, it won the Section 1 team championship,
as well as the Westchester County team championship; its 400 meter relay
team were also New York State champions; and
WHEREAS, In the 2010 Outdoor Season, the 400 meter relay team of the
Mount Vernon High School Boys Track Team were the League, Westchester
County and Section 1 champions, as well as the 1600 meter champions; and
WHEREAS, The following members of the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon High
School Boys Track Team established Outdoor Season records: Michael Blake
in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.3; Kadeem Anderson, Michael
Blake, Rawle Crawford and Darien Burnside in both the 800 meter medley
relay and 400 meter relay; the team's New Balance Outdoor National All-
Americans also placed fourth in the 400 meter relay; and
WHEREAS, During the 2011 Indoor Season, the Mount Vernon High School
Boys Track Team broke the Section 1, Westchester County and previous
Mount Vernon High School records in the 800 meter relay event with an
outstanding time of 1:28.77; and
WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon High School Boys 2011 Indoor Season 800
meter relay team of Michael Blake, Steven Gayle, Christopher Winslow and
Darien Burnside (and alternates, Kareem Campbell and Darian Livingston)
won League, Westchester County, Section 1, New York State and Feder-
ation, Eastern States and National titles; its 1600 meter relay team
also won League, Westchester County and Section 1 championships; and
WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon High School Boys track program also has
achieved success and excellence in the classroom, with 91 percent of its
seniors continuing on with their education; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon
High School Boys Track Team is due in great part to the efforts of its

Head Coach, Marcus Green, a skilled and inspirational mentor, respected
for his ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The 2010-2011 Mount Vernon High School Boys Track Team's
overall record is outstanding, and the team members were loyally and
enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the community at
large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon High School Boys
Track Team, throughout the 2010 Indoor and Outdoor Seasons, and 2011
Indoor Season, were a brotherhood of athletic ability, of good sports-
manship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team
players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon
High School Boys Track Team members have proven themselves to be an
unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably on their school
and community; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Marcus Green of the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon High
School Boys Track Team has done a superb job in guiding, molding and
inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment; the coaches and the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon High School
Boys Track Team's outstanding athletes have clearly made a contribution
to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members and Head Coach of the 2010-2011 Mount Vernon
High School Boys Track Team on their outstanding 2010-2011 Indoor and
Outdoor Seasons; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Head Coach Marcus Green and the members of the 2010-2011
Mount Vernon High School Boys Track Team.
