LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the American Cancer Society of Brook-
lyn upon the occasion of hosting its Power of Pink and Prayer Event

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the American Cancer Society of Brooklyn, New York upon the occasion of
hosting its Power of Pink and Prayer Event; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of the Power of Pink and Prayer workshop is to
diminish the suffering from breast cancer not only through education but
also honing in on the power of having spirituality; and
WHEREAS, Recent studies show that having spirituality however you may
classify it can play an imperative role in survivorship; spirituality
has multiple meanings, for some, spirituality is linked to a religious
faith; and
WHEREAS, Many survivors report that their faith is part of what got
them through the cancer experience and that afterward it continues to
give them strength in the face of often difficult circumstances; for
others, spirituality is about the personal beliefs that bring comfort,
meaning, and purpose to their lives; and
WHEREAS, The goal of this particular workshop is to provide education
about breast cancer, understanding the healing power of having spiritu-
ality and to provide useful methods to find inner strength when faced
with difficult circumstances; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the American Cancer Society of Brooklyn upon the occasion of
hosting its Power of Pink and Prayer Event; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to LaToya Williams, Community Mission Manager, American Cancer
Society.
