LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer
Team upon the occasion of its outstanding 2010 season

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team upon the occasion of its
outstanding 2010 season; and
WHEREAS, The 2010 College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team achieved
extraordinary competitive success; it was ranked as the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) number one in the Nation for 12
weeks, the highest ranking ever achieved by the College's women's soccer
team; and
WHEREAS, Ranked number one in the nation by the NSCAA at the end of
the regular season, the 2010 College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team
compiled an outstanding 23-1-1 record; it was undefeated in the regular
season with a record of 18-0, and had a 15-0 Northeast-10 Conference
record; the Team's only loss came in the National Semifinals by a score
of 1-0; and
WHEREAS, During the 2010 season the College of Saint Rose Women's
Soccer Team put together a 23 game winning streak and recorded 17 shut-
outs; its final NSCAA ranking for the 2010 season was number three in
the Nation; and
WHEREAS, The College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team has achieved
five consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championships
and four consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championships;
it also has three consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances, and has eight
NCAA tournament berths in the last nine years; and
WHEREAS, The College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team has made the
NSCAA Academic All-America team for 10 consecutive years; the team
included five NSCAA All-Americans and three Academic All-Americans; it
also included five Daktronics All-Americans and two CoSIDA/ESPN THE
MAGAZINE All-Americans; and
WHEREAS, The Head Coach of the 2010 College of Saint Rose Women's
Soccer Team, Laura Darling Gutheil, was honored as the NSCAA Division II
East Region Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the 2010 College of Saint
Rose Women's Soccer Team is due in great part to the efforts of Head
Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil, a skilled and inspirational tutor,
respected for her ability to develop potential into excellence; she has
done a superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the 2010 College of
Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the 2010 College of Saint Rose Women's
Soccer Team, from the opening game of the season, to its outstanding
regular season record, and Northeast-10 Conference and Tournament cham-
pionships, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good sportsmanship,
of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players are
second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the 2010 College of Saint Rose
Women's Soccer Team members have proven themselves to be an unbeatable

combination of talents, reflecting favorably on the College of Saint
Rose; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment; Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil and the 2010 College
of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team's outstanding athletes have clearly
made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
their college; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2010 College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer Team; its
members and Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil, on their outstanding
season, extraordinary regular season record, and Northeast-10 Conference
and Tournament championships; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the 2010 College of Saint Rose Women's Soccer
Team and to Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil.
