LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Jamaica
Business Resource Center on June 9, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
business associations which serve to support small businesses in their
community, and in doing so, contribute to the economic vitality of their
community and the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 15th Anniversary of the Jamaica Business Resource Center to be
observed at its 15th Anniversary Celebration, "A Sunset Champagne Recep-
tion" at The Ritz Carlton in Battery Park, New York, on Thursday, June
9, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Jamaica Business Resource Center (JBRC) is a non-profit
organization established in 1995, by President William Jefferson Clinton
to become a national pilot for the "One Stop Capital Shop" small busi-
ness program; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception 15 years ago, JBRC has provided technical
and financial assistance to over 7,300 new and established businesses;
it has also assisted small business clients in creating and/or retaining
hundreds of jobs by providing business research and planning; and
WHEREAS, JBRC has provided high quality, in-depth training to over
6,500 entrepreneurs in the fundamentals of business management thus
directly impacting new business launches, strengthening and expanding
established businesses, as well as reducing the number of business fail-
ures in low and moderate-income communities; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, JBRC was recognized as one of the top Minority Busi-
ness Enterprise Centers in the Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the Jamaica Business Resource Center, and recognizes its contrib-
utions to the local and State economies, fully confident that it will
continue its outstanding efforts in support of small businesses; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the Jamaica Business Resource Center
on June 9, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Jamaica Business Resource Center.
