LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Beno Sternlicht upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Service Award by Schenectady B'nai
B'rith

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in service to their
community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Beno Sternlicht will be honored during Schenectady B'nai
B'rith's Service Award Ceremony to be held on June 5, 2011 at Congre-
gation Agudat Achim; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sternlicht is co-founder, technical director, and board
chairman of Mechanical Technology, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, He is also a co-founder of Volunteers in Technical Assistance
and has served as its president and board chairman; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sternlicht and his loving wife, Lisa, established the
Lisben Fund, which supports the Schenectady Unit of B'nai B'rith's Holo-
caust Essay Contest, Yad Vashem, ORT, VITA, and AIPAC; and
WHEREAS, He has also chaired planning committees for Yom HaShoah
Commemorations at the Schenectady JCC; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sternlicht assisted the government of Israel to establish
a technology industry following the Six-Day War in 1967; and
WHEREAS, He has been an investor, developer, advisor, board member,
and board chairman of many companies in the Capital District, as well as
Israel and Russia; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sternlicht's expertise in industrial innovation and ener-
gy policy was sought after by Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan;
and
WHEREAS, He has exhibited the true spirit of this prestigious award
through his tireless dedication to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Beno Sternlicht upon the occasion of his designation as recip-
ient of the Service Award by Schenectady B'nai B'rith; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Beno Sternlicht.
