LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Emily Scharf upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Teen Leader Service Award from Schenec-
tady B'nai B'rith

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in service in their
community; and
WHEREAS, Emily Scharf will be honored as a Teen Leader during Schenec-
tady B'nai B'rith's Service Award Ceremony to be held on June 5, 2011 at
Congregation Agudat Achim; and
WHEREAS, Emily is a senior at Niskayuna High School and is an avid
volunteer for organizations at both the high school and Congregation
Agudat Achim; and
WHEREAS, She contributes her time to the Schenectady Free Health Clin-
ic; and
WHEREAS, Emily is the representative and coordinator of the Reach Out
and Read tutoring program for the Niskayuna Inter-Community Service
Club; and
WHEREAS, She is also a member of Natural Helpers; and
WHEREAS, Emily serves as a tutor and special needs volunteer and a
Junior Congregation leader at the synagogue; and
WHEREAS, She has also served as a leader at the local chapter and
regional levels of United Synagogue Youth; and
WHEREAS, Emily has been recognized by the Women's League of Conserva-
tive Judaism for her participation and leadership of religious services;
she has also been honored with the David Feingold Memorial Award and the
Alan Westheimer Memorial Scholarship for a trip to Israel for her dedi-
cation to Torah and Judaism; and
WHEREAS, She has exhibited the true spirit of this prestigious award
through her tireless dedication to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Emily Scharf upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Teen Leader Service Award from Schenectady B'nai B'rith; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Emily Scharf.
