LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Scott Smith upon the occasion of his
designation by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its
2011 Citizen of the Years Award on June 3, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and individuals whose purposeful endeavors, as
involved members of the community, enhance the quality of life therein;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Scott Smith upon the occasion of his designation by the Sidney Chamber
of Commerce as the recipient of its 2011 Citizen of the Years Award; and
WHEREAS, Scott Smith is truly a person who strives to make Sidney a
better place in which to live; he will be honored by the Sidney Chamber
of Commerce for his dedication and service to the Sidney community at
the Chamber's Annual Dinner, to be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge on
Friday, June 3, 2011; and
WHEREAS, As President of Neighbors Insurance in Sidney, Scott Smith
has demonstrated a dedication to serving his community with honesty and
integrity and in the true spirit of "neighbors" working together; he has
justly earned the respect of community members and a reputation as a
person who gets things done; and
WHEREAS, Scott Smith's community service reaches far beyond the walls
of his business; he has served as President of the Rotary Club and of
the Sidney Community Foundation and still found time to coach Pee Wee
sports teams; and
WHEREAS, As President of the Community Foundation, Scott Smith helped
raise the funds to build a playground at Keith Clark Park and then
directed the construction of the playground by community volunteers, a
project which was completed in less than three days and has greatly
benefited the Sidney community; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to recognize Scott Smith for
his commitment and contributions to Sidney and its quality of life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when the noble
aims and accomplishments of individuals such as Scott Smith are brought
to our attention it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them
for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Scott Smith upon the occasion of his designation by the Sidney
Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its 2011 Citizen of the Years
Award on June 3, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Scott Smith.
