LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary Celebration of
the Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center on Septem-
ber 22, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Community Development
Project of the Urban Justice Center on Thursday, September 22, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Community Development Project (CDP) of the Urban Justice
Center formed in September of 2001 to provide legal, technical, research
and policy assistance to grassroots community groups engaged in a wide
range of community development efforts throughout New York City; its
work is guided by the belief that real and lasting change in low-income,
urban neighborhoods is often rooted in the empowerment of grassroots,
community institutions; and
WHEREAS, CDP works with dozens of community-based organizations
throughout New York City that are engaged in organizing and advocacy
work on behalf of low-income communities, particularly minority communi-
ties; and
WHEREAS, As evidenced by the range of issue areas in which it works,
CDP's definition of community development is broad, and relies heavily
on the priorities and commitments of the groups it assists, counting on
these groups to inform CDP of their communities' needs and those issues
that are critical to their residents' daily lives; and
WHEREAS, Through its work in partnership with community institutions,
CDP strives to enhance community groups' ability to organize their
constituents, advocate for change, and improve social and economic
conditions in their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Community Develop-
ment Project of the Urban Justice Center on September 22, 2011; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Community Development Project of the Urban Justice
Center.
