LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Tyler O'Bryant of Ellenville High
School upon capturing the New York State Division II State Championship
in the 200-meter final

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Tyler O'Bryant, a junior at Ellenville High School, is the
2011 New York State Division II Champion of the 200-meter dash; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, June 11, 2011, Tyler O'Bryant and the Ellenville
Blue Devils attended the state track and field championships, where
Tyler was narrowly defeated in the 100-meter dash final; and
WHEREAS, Ninety minutes later, Tyler competed in the 200-meter dash
final, clinching the state title with a time of 21.90 seconds, beating
the second place finisher by more than a quarter-second; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Tyler O'Bryant is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Phil Althouse, a skilled and inspira-
tional tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into excel-
lence; and
WHEREAS, Tyler O'Bryant and the Ellenville Track and Field team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Coach Phil Althouse has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring Tyler O'Bryant toward his goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Phil Althouse and his outstanding athlete have
clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Tyler O'Bryant upon capturing the New York State Division
II Track and Field 200-meter dash Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tyler O'Bryant.
