LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Roger G. Powers III upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 5th Annual Gavel Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those individuals in the teaching profession who distinguish them-
selves in their dedication and commitment to their students; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Roger G. Powers III upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 5th Annual Gavel Award by Senior Colonie Town Justice Peter G.
Crummey; and
WHEREAS, Town Justice Peter G. Crummey annually presents his award to
a teacher in the Town of Colonie who promotes knowledge of the Courtroom
in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the College of Saint Rose, Roger G. Powers III
is a 12th year Social Studies teacher at St. Gregory's School in Loudon-
ville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Roger G. Powers III, who also serves as Dean of Students, has
conducted in depth analysis of the Federal and State court systems with
his students; and
WHEREAS, Roger G. Powers III's innovative curriculum nurtures his
students, helping them to become informed and active citizens; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career as an educator, Roger G.
Powers III has shown a clear understanding of the breadth of his role in
shaping the futures of the children entrusted to his care and instruc-
tion; and
WHEREAS, Teachers like Roger G. Powers III provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
young people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in
their future years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roger G. Powers III upon the occasion of his designation as recip-
ient of the 5th Annual Gavel Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roger G. Powers III.
