LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition by Mauby Media Services

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those esteemed residents of the State of New York who dedicate their
lives to the improvement of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Lamuel
Stanislaus upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by Mauby Media Services, celebrated on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at The
Cultural Barn in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mauby Media Services hosted the "Salute to Yesterday's Chil-
dren" event, which was a benefit and award ceremony acknowledging commu-
nity elders; and
WHEREAS, On April 22, 1921 Lamuel Stanislaus was born in Petite Marti-
nique; he attended Carriacou Elementary School and earned his Doctor of
Dental Surgery (DDS) from Howard University; he considers himself "a
real Grenadian" having been schooled and worked in all three of the
tri-island nation of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique; and
WHEREAS, For 13 years Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus served as Grenada's Ambas-
sador to the United Nations; for 38 years he practiced dentistry having
earned the distinction of becoming one of the first black dentists in
Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Lamuel Stanislaus arrived in America on August 30, 1945,
aboard the SS George Washington, a ship that was on its way to be
retired after World War II; at 91 years of age, he lives a quiet, but
contented life with his wife, Beryl, whom he married on August 17, 1952;
and
WHEREAS, This year, Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus received the Insignia of
Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty the Queen of
England; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus' secret to a long life is to love God,
trust in Him and to love your neighbor as yourself; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Beryl, and his five
children and seven grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus's distin-
guished record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Mauby Media Services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus.
