LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Pearline Thomas-Sandy upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by Mauby's Media Services

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those esteemed residents of the State of New York who dedicate their
lives to the improvement of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Pearline Thomas-Sandy has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Pearline
Thomas-Sandy upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by Mauby Media Services, celebrated on Saturday, August 13, 2011,
at The Cultural Barn in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mauby Media Services hosted the "Salute to Yesterday's Chil-
dren" event, which was a benefit and award ceremony acknowledging commu-
nity elders; and
WHEREAS, Pearline Thomas-Sandy was born in Mt. Grace, Tobago, on July
21, 1928, and the eldest of six children; she attended Quarry Street E.C
School in Tobago; and
WHEREAS, Pearline Thomas-Sandy has been parenting even before she gave
birth to her two children; without complaining, she sacrificed her
life's desire to be a nurse, choosing rather to stay at home and take
care of her siblings; and
WHEREAS, Although Pearline Thomas-Sandy never received formal training
as a nurse, she fulfilled this desire by caring for others, doing domes-
tic work and taking care of the elderly; by working as a domestic serv-
ant in Trinidad, she assisted by paying school tuition and other essen-
tials for her sisters; and
WHEREAS, Pearline Thomas-Sandy migrated to the United States in 1986
to take care of her grandson; at age 83, she still puts the same caring
and determined effort into "nursing" and babysitting several children
every day; and
WHEREAS, Encountering difficulties throughout her life, Pearline
Thomas-Sandy has always worked hard, but was happy and content, nonethe-
less; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Pearline Thomas-Sandy's distin-
guished record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Pearline Thomas-Sandy upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by Mauby Media Services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pearline Thomas-Sandy.
