LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Herb Shoppe upon the occasion of
its designation as Business of the Week by the City of Port Jervis, New
York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
small businesses greatly contribute to the economic vitality of communi-
ties across New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Herb Shoppe upon the occasion of its designation as Business of the
Week by the City of Port Jervis, New York; and
WHEREAS, Owned by Marie McCormick, The Herb Shoppe is located within
the historic Erie Train Depot at 15 Jersey Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Previously known as Paul and Jules Health and Nutrition
Center, The Herb Shoppe was started by two retired pharmacists, Paul
Connelly and Jules Bazerman; and
WHEREAS, The Herb Shoppe opened in August of 1994; Marie McCormick
started working at The Herb Shoppe in 1995, purchasing the business in
2002, to continue offering healthy food and health alternatives to the
Port Jervis community; and
WHEREAS, The Herb Shoppe sells supplements, herbs and spices, health
food, specialty foods, and greeting cards; and
WHEREAS, The store also runs 3 co-ops, an Organic Produce Co-op every
2 weeks, a Pantry Builders Co-op for bulk foods once per month, and a
Gluten Free Co-op once a month; and
WHEREAS, Small business owners exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit
which has fueled our State and Nation since their founding; and
WHEREAS, Events which honor small businesses help to enhance the free
enterprise system upon which our Nation was built; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses exert a strong positive influence on our
communities, and the future welfare of New York State depends on the
continued development of small businesses; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Herb Shoppe upon the occasion of its designation as Business
of the Week by the City of Port Jervis, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marie McCormick, owner of The Herb Shoppe.
