LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Kevin Connell upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 40 years of
dedicated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Kevin
Connell upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 40 years of dedicated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department, to be celebrated at its 55th Annual Installation Dinner on
Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell joined North Lindenhurst Fire Department on
March 13, 1972; his father, John Connell was also a member and his
influence contributed to Kevin's interest in fire service; moreover,
Kevin's son, Christopher, is a third generation volunteer firefighter;
and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell has held several positions with North Linden-
hurst Fire Department; he is presently an Ex-Captain of Engine Company
No. 2; and
WHEREAS, In 1975 Kevin Connell was elected Lieutenant of the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department Drill Team; in 1976, he was elected to the
position of Captain; he is a major influence to the Piston Knockers and
its history; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell was instrumental helping the Piston Knockers
earn the title of New York State Champions for 4 consecutive years from
1995-1998; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell has served on the Executive Board of North
Lindenhurst as Trustee, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and Pres-
ident; in December 2011, he was once again elected to the position of
President; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Carol; together, they
enjoy spending time with their grandsons, Vincent and Joseph; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Kevin
Connell is such a firefighter; throughout 40 years of devoted service,
this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty,
those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Kevin Connell for 40 years of distinguished service
to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kevin Connell.
