LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Oneonta Mayor Richard P. Miller, Jr.
upon the occasion of receiving the Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr. Distinguished
Citizen Award from the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Oneonta Mayor Richard P. Miller, Jr. upon the occasion of receiving the
Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award from the Otsego
County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miller is the 20th mayor of the city of Oneonta; he was
an administrator in higher education before running for public office;
and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miller was the ninth president of Hartwick College in
Oneonta; he previously held positions as vice chancellor and chief oper-
ating officer of the State University of New York along with serving in
top positions at the University of Rochester; and
WHEREAS, Prior to that, Mayor Miller was president and chief executive
officer of Case-Hoyt, with which he had been affiliated from 1974
through 1987; and
WHEREAS, Our local governments, as well as our State and our Nation
have been strengthened by those Americans, such as Mayor Miller, who
felt a sense of responsibility to their community, to one another and to
their families; and
WHEREAS, A singular asset to all of the citizens he has served in the
Village of Oneonta, as well as the State of New York, Mayor Miller's
life and career are a portrait of preeminence in public service, and
represents a role model for all who aspire to a distinguished career in
public service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Oneonta Mayor Richard P. Miller, Jr. upon the occasion of
receiving the Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award from
the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mayor Richard P. Miller, Jr.
