LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Florie Wachtenheim upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Scarsdale Bowl on April 18, 2012

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Florie Wachtenheim has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Florie Wacht-
enheim upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Scars-
dale Bowl, to be celebrated at The Scarsdale Bowl Dinner in her honor on
Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Scarsdale Bowl is recognized as one of the highest honors
that can be bestowed on Scarsdale residents in recognition of their
voluntary public service in the community; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of her life in Scarsdale, Florie Wachtenheim
has undertaken numerous volunteer responsibilities in the educational
service area; she has been involved in numerous service organizations,
obtaining leadership roles wherever she devoted her time; and
WHEREAS, Florie Wachtenheim has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Florie Wachtenheim became President of the Fox Mead-
ow PTA; and
WHEREAS, Other important roles have been accorded to Florie Wachten-
heim at Scarsdale PT Council, School Board Nominating Committee, the
Board of Education Presidency, Middle School PTA, Scarsdale Teen Center,
Scarsdale Bowl Committee, Scarsdale Scholarship Fund, Scarsdale Board of
Education, League of Women Voters, and Scarsdale Adult School; and
WHEREAS, Currently the TVCC representative to the School Board Nomi-
nating Committee and editor of the Scarsdale League of Women Voters
Bulletin, Florie Wachtenheim also sits on the United Way of Scarsdale-
Edgemont and Scarsdale Adult School Boards of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Florie Wachtenheim is on the committee exploring
the formation of a Scarsdale education foundation, has served on the
Citizen's Nominating Committee and was a founder and board member of the
Scarsdale Teen Center; and
WHEREAS, Florie Wachtenheim is an associate with the firm Hazard,
Young, Attea & Associates, which assists school districts in their
searches for superintendents and principals; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Florie Wachtenheim has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Florie Wachtenheim has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Florie Wachtenheim upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Scarsdale Bowl on April 18, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Florie Wachtenheim.
