LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Council of Urban Professionals
upon the occasion of hosting its 5th Annual Leadership Gala, and paying
tribute to this year's honorees

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
the Council of Urban Professionals upon the occasion of hosting its 5th
Annual Leadership Gala on Thursday, April 5, 2012, and paying tribute to
this year's honorees; and
WHEREAS, The Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) is a non-partisan,
nonprofit organization representing and advocating for the social, poli-
tical and economic interests of urban professionals; and
WHEREAS, CUP develops diverse business and civic leaders, empowering
them to exert influence, achieve their individual goals, and create
collective impact; and
WHEREAS, The CUP Leadership Gala is instrumental in supporting its
efforts to place diverse professionals and women on Boards, in hosting
numerous networking events in order to support minority and women-owned
business enterprises, and in providing extra instruction to high school
students in its REACH program to reward achievement on Advanced Place-
ment; and
WHEREAS, This year's honorees include: Young Men's Initiative, Public
Service Innovation Leadership Award; Misty Copeland, Breakthrough Lead-
ership Award; Amelia and Bayo Ogunlesi, New York City Vision Leadership
Award; and Time Warner, Corporation Diversity & Inclusion Leadership
Award; and
WHEREAS, In celebration of their achievements, the CUP Leadership Gala
will convene a high profile group of corporate, nonprofit, and elected
leaders to enjoy a sophisticated evening of fine food, compelling enter-
tainment and dynamic conversation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Council of Urban Professionals upon the occasion of hosting
its 5th Annual Leadership Gala, and to pay tribute to this year's hono-
rees; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Council of Urban Professionals, and to the aforementioned
honorees.
