LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lieutenant Dennis McCavera and Lieuten-
ant James Mayberry upon the occasion of their designation as recipients
of the NYIT Distinguished Service Award on April 18, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lieutenant
Dennis McCavera and Lieutenant James Mayberry upon the occasion of their
designation as recipients of the NYIT Distinguished Service Award, to be
celebrated at the NYIT Police Appreciation Day on April 18, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Dennis McCavera of Lynbrook, New York, and Lieu-
tenant James Mayberry of Fort Salonga, New York, have served the Village
of Old Westbury for 35 and 31 years respectively; and
WHEREAS, Both officers have held supervisory positions with the Old
Westbury Police Department for over 20 years; they are bright, hard-
working and loyal; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Dennis McCavera's and Lieutenant James Mayberry's
contributions to the Old Westbury Police Department are invaluable; and
WHEREAS, These distinguished officers are well-respected by the
members of the department, as well as the residents, and entire law
enforcement community; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Dennis McCavera and Lieutenant James Mayberry are
considered the backbone of Old Westbury Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The Old Westbury Police Department is viewed as one of the
finest departments on Long Island; this honor would not be possible
without the continued efforts of Lieutenant Dennis McCavera and Lieuten-
ant James Mayberry; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lieutenant Dennis McCavera and Lieutenant James Mayberry upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the NYIT Distinguished
Service Award on April 18, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lieutenant Dennis McCavera and Lieutenant James Mayberry.
