LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Town of Crawford Police Chief Daniel P.
McCann upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of dedicated
service

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Town of Craw-
ford Police Chief Daniel P. McCann upon the occasion of his retirement
after many years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, After nearly 36 years with the Town of Crawford Police
Department, Chief Daniel P. McCann will retire on Friday, March 30,
2012; and
WHEREAS, Hired as a part-time officer in May 1976, Town of Crawford
Police Chief Daniel P. McCann was appointed to a full-time position in
1977; in 1979, he was appointed as Officer-in-Charge; and
WHEREAS, During his successful tenure as Town of Crawford Police
Chief, Daniel P. McCann has overseen the Department's growth into a
full-time 24/7 operation; the Department has also developed a community
policing philosophy, with a focus on youth and the involvement of commu-
nity organizations; and
WHEREAS, Upon retirement, Town of Crawford Police Chief Daniel P.
McCann will assume a position as the Town's part-time Coordinator of
Safety and Security; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Town of Crawford Police Chief Daniel P. McCann upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of dedicated service; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Town of Crawford Police Chief Daniel P. McCann.
