LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Diana Vaz upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Special Recognition Award

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Diana Vaz upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Special Recognition
Award, to be celebrated at the 5th Annual Men of Distinction and Women
of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 17, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to honor and pay just tribute to outstanding individuals
whose leadership roles have had a significant impact on the daily lives
of the people of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Diana Vaz lived as a resident of Queens, New York, for over
30 years; she entered city government on November 7, 1988 as an Adminis-
trative Assistant for the Child Welfare Administration; and
WHEREAS, As an Administrative Assistant, Diana Vaz attended Hudson
Valley Community College taking courses to improve her skills; she
stayed in that position until March 1992 where she then became an Eligi-
bility Specialist III under the Department of Social Services; and
WHEREAS, A lateral transfer was made by Diana Vaz in 2001 to the title
of Job Opportunity Specialist I at East End Job Center; while there she
attended LaGuardia Community College; she was also promoted in February
2004; and
WHEREAS, In May 2005, Diana Vaz transferred over to the Intensive
Service Job Center where she was head of the employment section of the
Center; she remained in that position until July 2010 where she was
promoted to the Executive Regional Manager's Office as a Job Opportunity
Specialist Level I, and most recently as a Job Opportunity Specialist
II; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Diana Vaz upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Special Recognition Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Diana Vaz.
