LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mike Koehler upon the occasion of his
designation as being named Varsity845 Basketball Coach of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary individuals within the State of New York whose personal
triumphs serve as an inspiration to all citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mike
Koehler upon the occasion of his designation as being named Varsity845
Basketball Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mike Koehler graduated from Lindenhurst High School on Long
Island in 1997 and later attended Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh,
earning a bachelor's degree in social studies education in 2001; he then
received a master's degree in teaching world history from SUNY New Paltz
in 2009; and
WHEREAS, The head coach for Marlboro High School Boys Varsity Basket-
ball Team, Mike Koehler led the Iron Dukes to their first Mid-Hudson
Athletic League title and their first Class A Section 9 championship
since 1989, defeating two-time defending champion Red Hook 77-68 in
overtime; and
WHEREAS, The MHAL championship served as the Iron Dukes' first league
title since 1967; Marlboro finished the season 17-5; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, Coach Mike Koehler took over the Marlboro Boys
Basketball Team; he coached the Marlboro Girls Team the two previous
seasons and served as the Marlboro Freshmen Boys Coach and a Varsity
Assistant in 2002-2003; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Tara, and their chil-
dren, Grace and Michael, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when indi-
viduals of such enduring courage and accomplishment are brought to our
attention, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those
individuals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mike Koehler upon the occasion of his designation as being named
Varsity845 Basketball Coach of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mike Koehler.
