LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Norman
J. Levy Lakeside School

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 60th Anniversary of the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School, to be
celebrated at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Merrick "Then and Now"
Commemorative Display, on Friday, May 18, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Norman J. Levy Lakeside School consists of an involved
community, a strong effective Board of Education and a dedicated team of
administrators, teachers and staff who have supported the tradition of
excellence at Levy Lakeside for the past 60 years; and
WHEREAS, The Norman J. Levy Lakeside School is a K-6 school committed
to nurturing the academic, social and emotional development of each of
its students; currently more than 600 students are enrolled at the
school; and
WHEREAS, The Norman J. Levy Lakeside School strives to construct mean-
ingful learning opportunities that require active student engagement;
and
WHEREAS, Using the latest technology, the Norman J. Levy Lakeside
School seeks to excite and motivate its students as well as enhance the
teaching of its curricular areas; and
WHEREAS, Another focus of the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School is for
its students to make a lifelong commitment to literacy; it continues to
use literature as the centerpiece of all reading and writing instruc-
tion; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition of the Norman J. Levy Lakeside
School; and
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School
stands prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthusiastic quest of its
mission, to promote the maximum growth of every student, establishing
standards and building skills which will carry its students and the
citizens of its community into the future; and
WHEREAS, The Norman J. Levy Lakeside School is proudly aware of its
distinguished past, eager to fulfill its present commitment to parents,
students and the community, and planning with vision and purpose for the
ebb and swell of growth and change it will encounter in the years to
come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School.
