LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Steven V. Lant upon the occasion of his
selection as the 2012 Business Person of the Year by THE POUGHKEEPSIE
JOURNAL

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society, and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity of us
all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Steven V. Lant
upon the occasion of his selection as the 2012 Business Person of the
Year by THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL, to be celebrated at a luncheon on
Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Dutchess Community College, Poughkeepsie, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Poughkeepsie Journal Business Person of the Year Award is
presented annually to recognize an individual whose leadership, hard
work and dedication have made a measurable impact on the economic
viability and vitality of the region and the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, Steven V. Lant's ascension through the ranks of Central
Hudson to become Chairman, President and CEO of CH Energy Group in 2004,
is a testament to his leadership abilities and business acumen; and
WHEREAS, Over his 32-year career with the utility, he has seen many
changes in the energy business and has played a key role in restructur-
ing the organization during deregulation; and
WHEREAS, The next major step for CH Energy Group is its acquisition by
Fortis Inc., the largest investor-owned distribution utility in Canada,
expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2013; and
WHEREAS, Despite the challenges of overseeing energy delivery oper-
ations that extend from Albany County south to Putnam County and Miller-
ton west to the Catskills, Steven V. Lant is committed to volunteerism
and enhancing the quality of life in his community; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Steven V. Lant serves as chair of the Hudson
Valley Development Corp. and Health Quest boards; previously, he served
as chair of United Way as well as many other nonprofit board affil-
iations; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Steven V. Lant upon the occasion of his selection as the 2012
Business Person of the Year by THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Steven V. Lant.
