LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James Carlson upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition for many years of dedicated communi-
ty service

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James Carlson upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion for many years of dedicated community service; and
WHEREAS, A 34-year member of Mineola Fire Department, Engine Company
No. 3, James Carlson has answered the call of duty many times over;
however, his service does not end at the firehouse; and
WHEREAS, Since his days in the military, James Carlson has been a
blood donor; and
WHEREAS, For the past several years, James Carlson has undergone
Apheresis, a longer and more involved process in which a donor's platel-
ets are specifically removed for donation; and
WHEREAS, In March of 2012, the New York Blood Service advised James
Carlson that his white blood cells were a good match for a very sick 12
year-old boy; and
WHEREAS, Without hesitation, James Carlson made the trip to Manhattan
to undergo this life-saving donation the very next day; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in acknowledging
those esteemed individuals within the State of New York who distinguish
themselves in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Through his noble deeds, James Carlson has demonstrated his
character and his compassion for the welfare of others, personifying, by
virtue of his actions, the collective concern of ordinary citizens
across the community of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James Carlson upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition for many years of dedicated community service; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Carlson.
