LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring WNYT News Channel 13 upon the occasion
of its designation by the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York as
the recipient of its 2012 Making A Difference Award on June 13, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are greatly enriched by the compassionate commitment of organizations
which distinguish themselves in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
WNYT News Channel 13 upon the occasion of its designation by the Ameri-
can Red Cross of Northeastern New York as the recipient of its 2012
Making A Difference Award at its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recogni-
tion Dinner, to be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York on
Wednesday, June 13, 2012; and
WHEREAS, WNYT News Channel 13 of Albany, truly merits this high honor;
and
WHEREAS, WNYT News Channel 13 truly distinguished itself through the
extraordinary and outstanding effort it demonstrated in the wake of
Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee; and
WHEREAS, News Channel 13 held a telethon which raised several hundred
thousand dollars; while partnering with Price Chopper, the station
raised an additional sum of more than one hundred thousand dollars, for
a grand total of more than four hundred thousand dollars for Hurricane
Irene and Tropical Storm Lee relief efforts; and
WHEREAS, The telethon was engaging and encouraged viewers to donate an
enormous amount of money in a short period of time to help their neigh-
bors in need; News Channel 13 also promoted the American Red Cross on
air long after the telethon was over in order to raise more money
through Price Chopper sales; and
WHEREAS, As an organization, WNYT News Channel 13 itself also donated
several thousand dollars to the relief effort; WNYT News Channel 13 not
only helped raise a large sum of money during a disaster, but donated
its time and resources as well to promote the American Red Cross'
efforts and mission during that critical time; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend WNYT News Channel 13 upon the occasion of its designation by the
American Red Cross of Northeastern New York as the recipient of its 2012
Making A Difference Award on June 13, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to WNYT News Channel 13.
