LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring National Grid upon the occasion of its
designation by the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York as the
recipient of its 2012 Good Neighbor Award on June 13, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are greatly enriched by the compassionate commitment of organizations
which distinguish themselves in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
National Grid upon the occasion of its designation by the American Red
Cross of Northeastern New York as the recipient of its 2012 Good Neigh-
bor Award at its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Dinner, to be
held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York on Wednesday, June 13,
2012; and
WHEREAS, National Grid of Albany truly merits this high honor; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, as in many years before, National Grid demonstrated
exceptional organizational initiative in responding to the needs of
those affected; after Hurricane Irene swept through our region and left
thousands without power, National Grid not only reacted to restore power
as quickly as possible but also gave tremendous support to the American
Red Cross with a significant monetary contribution as everyone worked to
shelter and support those affected by the storm; and
WHEREAS, After the hurricane, both the Red Cross and National Grid had
a tremendous responsibility to help meet the many needs of the people
and communities affected; working as neighbors and partners, both were
able to provide services which made a positive impact at a very diffi-
cult time; and
WHEREAS, National Grid also answered the calls for assistance after
spring flooding affected communities in the North Country; it offers
consistent support as a corporate partner throughout the year and, in
each of these ways, National Grid truly epitomizes the qualities of a
good neighbor and is truly deserving of the Good Neighbor Award; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend National Grid upon the occasion of its designation by the Ameri-
can Red Cross of Northeastern New York as the recipient of its 2012 Good
Neighbor Award on June 13, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to National Grid.
