LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Syracuse United Neighbors upon the
occasion of celebrating its 35th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Syracuse United Neighbors upon the occasion of celebrating its 35th
Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Syracuse United Neighbors is a grassroots community organiza-
tion, established in 1977, and dedicated to improving the lives of fami-
lies living in the neighborhoods on the south, southwest and near-west
sides of Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, Syracuse United Neighbors is a member of the National
People's Action organizing network, a coalition of neighborhood groups
from over 30 states that work on changing national policies that have a
direct effect on local neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Syracuse United Neighbors members are active, knowledgeable
and involved citizens, working for neighborhoods to have: homes that are
affordable and in good repair; equal access to quality public services;
crime and drug-free streets; and access to fair credit and decent bank
lending; and
WHEREAS, With the belief that neighborhoods become stronger when its
residents are able to advocate for themselves, members of Syracuse
United Neighbors take the lead role in all of its activities including,
facilitating public meetings, and negotiating with representatives from
private industry, government officials and executives of non-profit
agencies; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Syracuse United Neighbors upon the occasion of celebrating its
35th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Syracuse United Neighbors.
