LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Leonard "Lenny" Allen,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Lenny Allen, President of Local 2021 Off-Track Betting
Employees New York died on Monday, May 28, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Lenny Allen distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Brooklyn, New York, Lenny Allen got involved
with the labor movement more than 20 years ago as a DC37 Shop Steward;
for more than two decades, he was a union leader at the New York City
Municipal Employees Union, District Council 37, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, which
represents more than 125,000 city workers; and
WHEREAS, As President of Local 2021 Off-Track Betting Employees New
York, Mr. Allen led 1,500 members in the fight for dignity, decent
wages, and a fair contract; he was a DC37 Executive Board Vice Presi-
dent, a union delegate and a member of DC37's Finance Committee; and
WHEREAS, Lenny Allen's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Lenny Allen is survived by his wife, Delores, their four
children and four grandchildren, as well as their two great-grandchil-
dren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Lenny Allen leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Leonard "Lenny" Allen, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Lenny Allen.
