LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dylan J. O'Connor for winning the
2012 New York State Regional Spelling Bee

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals and
values cherished by the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dylan J. O'Connor upon winning the New York State Regional Spelling
Bee held in LaFargeville, New York in March 2012; and
WHEREAS, Dylan O'Connor won the regional spelling bee besting students
from 18 different school districts throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St.
Lawrence Counties; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man, as a result of his hard work,
dedication and perseverance qualified for the 85th Scripps National
Spelling Bee held in National Harbor, Maryland, in May 2012, where he
competed against 278 spellers from all 50 states and as far away as New
Zealand and South Korea; and
WHEREAS, Dylan O'Connor, a fifth grader and an honor roll student at
Alexandria Central School, in Alexandria Bay, New York, prepared for the
regional competition by studying one to two hours a day for several
weeks; and
WHEREAS, Dylan O'Connor is a well rounded and accomplished young man
who enjoys swimming, classical music and piano, plays the percussion in
his school band, and is teaching himself the Japanese and Russian
languages; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional student with his zest for life and drive for
success, has inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends;
and
WHEREAS, Through his hard work and determination, Dylan O'Connor has
shown a strong indication of his ability to master difficult tasks; his
accomplishments will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully equipped to
meet the challenges of today's complex society and no doubt his future
will be filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dylan J. O'Connor for winning the 2012 New York State
Regional Spelling Bee; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dylan J. O'Connor.
