LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Skye Cardona upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Marian I. Hughes Scholarship on June 16,
2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Skye
Cardona upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Marian
I. Hughes Scholarship by the Black Women's Association of Albany, to be
celebrated at its 7th Annual Scholarship Luncheon "Blazing a Path to the
Future" on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference
Center in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Skye Cardona is a senior at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High
School who has achieved an impressive 91.9 GPA taking Honors and
Advanced Placement classes; and
WHEREAS, She ranks 16th in her graduating class and she is a member of
the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Skye Cardona's favorite subject is English because she loves
reading, writing, and in-depth discussions; and
WHEREAS, Skye Cardona has been able to combine academic achievement
with a wide range of extracurricular activities such as Dance Class,
Cheerleading and Drama Club; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Skye Cardona has served as a Student Government
Homeroom Representative for three years; and
WHEREAS, One of only five students from her school selected for New
Visions: Journalism and Media Studies, Skye Cardona has also earned
college credits in Math Structures and Spanish; and
WHEREAS, Skye Cardona volunteers at her local fire house, sings at
nursing homes and works at Senior Projects of Ravena where she cooks,
cleans and serves; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Skye Cardona will attend Geneseo State
College where she will major in Communications, with a goal of going
into Journalism or Broadcasting; and
WHEREAS, Skye Cardona, in achieving this high academic honor, may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excel-
lence she brings to her family, friends, community and school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Skye Cardona upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Marian I. Hughes Scholarship on June 16, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Skye Cardona.
