LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alta Boyer upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Citizen Award from the
Town of Lodi, New York

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Alta Boyer has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Alta Boyer
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2012 Outstand-
ing Citizen Award from the Town of Lodi, New York, to be observed on
Saturday, July 7, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Alta Boyer has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Alta Boyer's numerous books, articles and essays have led to
a better understanding of the culture of the past and instilled hope for
the present; and
WHEREAS, Her chronicling of the families, houses and institutions of
Lodi and the surrounding area have led others to pursue their individual
histories and seek to understand the complexity of the rise and fall of
this rural community; and
WHEREAS, People young and old come to Alta Boyer to plumb her remark-
able memory and appreciate her ability to spin an interesting story; and
WHEREAS, Alta Boyer spearheaded the drive to save the Lodi Historical
Society Building, which has provided a vehicle for the preservation and
perpetuation of the social and cultural history of Lodi; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Alta Boyer has supported each venture to preserve
the legacy of the past with every asset available to her and encouraged
others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Alta Boyer has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Alta Boyer has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alta Boyer upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2012 Outstanding Citizen Award from the Town of Lodi, New York; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alta Boyer.
