community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the

in Fire Service-Based EMS Award by the Congressional Fire Services
Institute and the MedicAlert Foundation; this auspicious occasion was
celebrated at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, The Selden Fire Department, a volunteer department, was
recognized for a number of new initiatives and expanded training that

WHEREAS, The department was praised for assigning all newer members to
shifts on the ambulance squad, which has resulted in covering all calls
without needing mutual aid, and providing 24/7 paramedic coverage; and
WHEREAS, The Selden Fire Department was also honored for training its
volunteers on dealing with the specialized needs of the growing elderly
population in Selden; and
WHEREAS, The Selden Fire Department is among the top 10 in the state
in terms of 911 call volume, and has taken great strides to protect its

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that we should give
special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the betterment
of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic good works
performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great Empire State,
their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
