LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 35th Anniversary of Literacy
Genesee, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of Legislative Body to honor those illustrious
institutions of the State of New York whose purposeful endeavors serve
to enhance the quality of life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commem-
orate the 35th Anniversary of Literacy Genesee, Inc. on Tuesday, June
26, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Literacy Volunteers of Genesee County was founded in 1977 by
area librarians wishing to address the problem of adult illiteracy in
Genesee County; in 2003, the name was changed to Literacy Genesee, Inc.;
and
WHEREAS, Headquartered in Batavia, Literacy Genesee volunteers are
trained to work one-on-one with adults ages 16 and out of school, or
older, who want to improve their basic reading, writing, math, computer,
daily living and/or conversational English speaking skills; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to recognize Literacy Genesee
for its enduring commitment and contributions to the quality of life in
Genesee County and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, Ably led by Executive Director Linda Lewandowski, Literacy
Genesee, Inc. will prosper today and into the future; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when the noble
aims and accomplishments of organizations such as Literacy Genesee are
brought to our attention it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and
commend them, and their staff and volunteers, for the edification and
emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 35th Anniversary of Literacy Genesee, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Linda Lewandowski, Executive Director, Literacy Genesee, Inc.
